Presentation of the 17 SDG
The first goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is to “End poverty in all its forms everywhere.”
This includes:
- Reducing the number of people living in extreme poverty, defined as living on less than $1.25 per day.
- Ensuring that all individuals, particularly those who are poor and marginalized, have the resources and opportunities they need to improve their livelihoods and escape poverty:
- Providing education and job opportunities.
- Advocating for policies that support their living conditions.
- Protecting the rights of children and women.
The second goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is to “End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.”
This includes:
- Eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, including reducing the number of people who suffer from hunger and malnutrition.
- Ensuring that all people have access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food all year round.
- Promoting sustainable agriculture practices that increase productivity and incomes, while conserving natural resources and protecting the environment.
The third goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is to “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.” This includes:
- Reducing the global maternal mortality ratio and ending preventable deaths of newborns and children under five years of age.
- Combating communicable diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, and Ebola, and non-communicable diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
- Ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health care services and rights, including family planning and HIV prevention, treatment, and support.
The fourth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is to “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”
This includes:
- Ensuring that all children have access to quality early childhood development, care, and pre-primary education.
- Providing free, compulsory, and equitable primary and secondary education for all.
- Promoting lifelong learning opportunities, including technical and vocational education, for all individuals, with a focus on disadvantaged and marginalized groups.
The fifth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is to “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.”
This includes:
- Eliminating all forms of discrimination against women and girls.
- Eliminating violence against women and girls, including trafficking, exploitation, and abuse of all kinds.
- Promoting the empowerment of women and girls.
The sixth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is to “Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all​”. This includes:
- Increasing water efficiency and improving water quality through better management and infrastructure.
- Increasing the availability of safe and affordable drinking water and sanitation services, particularly in rural areas.
- Protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems, such as rivers, lakes, to ensure their sustainable use.
The seventh goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is to “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.”
This includes:
- Increasing the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and hydropower, and improving energy efficiency.
- Expanding access to modern energy services, particularly in rural and remote areas.
- Supporting the development and deployment of clean and renewable energy technologies, including through international cooperation and partnerships.
The eighth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is to “Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.”
This includes:
- Supporting economic growth and development through investment in infrastructure, technology, and skills development.
- Promoting full and productive employment and decent work for all, including through policies that protect workers’ rights and support the creation of quality jobs.
- Promoting the development of inclusive and sustainable businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises, and fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.
The ninth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is to “Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.”
This includes:
- Building infrastructure, including transport, energy, and communication systems, that is resilient to natural disasters and climate change.
- Promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, including through the development of clean and energy-efficient technologies and industries.
- Fostering innovation and the development of new technologies, particularly in developing countries, to support economic growth and social development.
The tenth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is to “Reduce inequality within and among countries.”
This includes:
- Reducing income inequality within and among countries, particularly by promoting the income growth of the bottom 40% of the population.
- Promoting social, economic, and political inclusion, particularly for marginalized and disadvantaged groups.
- Tackling discrimination and promoting equal opportunities for all, including through the elimination of laws, policies, and practices that discriminate on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or other factors.
The eleventh goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is to “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.”
This includes:
- Enhancing urban-rural linkages and improving the lives of people living in slums and informal settlements.
- Promoting sustainable and inclusive urbanization, including through the development of compact, connected, and coordinated cities.
- Improving the safety and resilience of cities and human settlements, including through the development of infrastructure and systems to manage natural disasters and other emergencies.
The twelfth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is to “Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.”
This includes:
- Reducing the environmental impact of consumption and production, including through the promotion of resource efficiency and the use of cleaner technologies.
- Encouraging the development of sustainable and resilient infrastructure, including through the use of environmentally friendly materials and construction practices.
- Promoting the development of sustainable and inclusive economic growth that reduces environmental impacts and improves the well-being of people.
The thirteenth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is to “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.”
This includes:
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing climate resilience, particularly in developing countries.
- Strengthening the ability of countries to adapt to the impacts of climate change, including through the development of early warning systems and disaster risk reduction measures.
- Promoting the development of clean and renewable energy, including through international cooperation and partnerships.
The fourteenth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is to “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.”
This includes:
- Increasing the scientific knowledge and understanding of the oceans, seas, and marine resources.
- Conserving and sustainably using marine ecosystems, including through the establishment of marine protected areas.
- Reducing marine pollution and the impacts of ocean acidification, including through the prevention and reduction of marine litter and the promotion of sustainable fishing practices.
The fifteenth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is to “Protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, forests, mountains, and drylands.”
This includes:
- Protecting and restoring terrestrial ecosystems, including through the establishment of protected areas and the restoration of degraded lands.
- Promoting the sustainable use of forests, including through the promotion of sustainable forest management practices and the reduction of illegal logging.
- Promoting the sustainable use of mountains, drylands, and other terrestrial ecosystems, including through the promotion of sustainable agriculture and rangeland management practices.
The sixteenth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is to “Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels.”
This includes:
- Promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, including through the prevention and resolution of conflicts and the promotion of tolerance and respect.
- Ensuring access to justice for all, including through the development of fair and accountable legal systems and institutions.
- Building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels, including through the promotion of good governance and the rule of law.
The seventeenth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 is to “Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.”
This includes:
- Strengthening the means of implementation and revitalizing the global partnership for sustainable development, including through the promotion of international cooperation and the facilitation of the exchange of knowledge, technology, and resources.
- Enhancing the participation of all stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, and academia, in the implementation of the SDGs.
- Promoting transparent, accountable, and inclusive decision-making processes at all levels, including through the participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups.
