Description of the Best Practice:

Time Banks are a system in which people reciprocally exchange activities, services, knowledge, using time as an alternative currency, instead of money. In Time Banks, the value of what is exchanged corresponds to the time used to carry them out. Anyone can join a time bank, as everyone has something to offer something useful to others and everyone needs something.

Anyone who has done something for another person will receive a check (in hours – of course!). In this way, they will acquire credit in hours which they can spend to receive services. It is not necessary to return a service exactly to who provided it: it is an open system and you do not contract debts or credits with anyone in particular, but only with the Time Bank. The exchanges are based on the principle of voluntariness, and everyone can decide whether to request or offer activities.

●       What would you offer to a Time Bank?

●       What would you ask for?

Description of the Best Practice:

A cooperative is a special type of company, where workers (or at least most of it) also owns the company and democratically control it. It is a type of enterprise which balance growth and investment with democracy and inclusivity.

Since 2013, Confcooperative Toscana (one of the Association of cooperative enterprises in Tuscany, Italy), together with the Federation of Cooperative Banks, organize courses where school pupils learn what cooperatives are and how they work. After having learnt the basis of how an enterprise and a cooperative in particular work, the students create their own simulate cooperative: they choose the name of the company, its Statute (that is, the rules of the company) and elect the main roles within it. They also decide – of course – what type of service or product their cooperative will deliver and start working for its realization. They are also involved in the organization of a fundraising activity where they sell their products/services, which is always devoted to a project in favor of the whole community.

●       Simulate a cooperative with your mates: what would you make/sell? How would your company work?

Description of the Best Practice:

In many countries a serious problem is that of economic violence by men against women. Economic violence means that women are severely restricted or prevented from managing their own money and this is a major obstacle to their personal and professional independence.

Donne al Quadrato is a project promoted by Global Thinking Foundation and conceived by a group of women who provide knowledge and skills, gained during their working careers in the world of finance and professions (accountants, lawyers, labor consultants, entrepreneurs, psychologists) to help other women know how to manage their money without delegating to others, prevent economic violence, take on a leading role aware of their own private and professional life choices.

Beyond courses, the team has developed a free app through which women can easily manage their budget.
